Instagrid: A Quantum Leap for the Movie Industry

Last month, a commercial was shot in Hamburg. This is hardly rare, seeing as there are many TV shows, commercials, and movies shot in the Hanseatic city. But on this particular shoot, the lights were powered not by a combustion generator, but by Instagrid.

The experienced gaffer Peter Assmann and his team worked with five Instagrid ONE units to make sure that the set was illuminated as needed. Today, Peter shares insights from this recent commercial shoot in Hamburg, where our portable power stations revolutionized his lighting game.

On this shoot, they used, amongst other equipment, a 20-cluster of Creamsource Vortex lights, which have a robust IP value for resilience against the elements. Since the shoot was outdoors, weather conditions are important to consider. However, the weather wasn’t to be a problem here, since Instagrid ONE is water resistant.

With twelve kilowatts of lamp power at their disposal, flexibility is imperative. Using the Instagrid ONE, Peter's team powered the set without inconvenient cables, enabling seamless transitions and spontaneity. And as Peter says:

“Every conversion takes time and time is money. And every cable that we don't have to lay, but can power with Instagrid, ends up costing us real money on set.”

Moreover, Instagrid is not just powerful and convenient; it's also the eco-friendly solution. Diesel generators, which currently plague film sets all over the world, contribute significantly to carbon emissions. By embracing Instagrid, Peter's team reduces their carbon footprint, making strides towards a greener, more sustainable film industry.

In essence, Instagrid isn't just a tool – it's a catalyst for innovation, empowering filmmakers to transcend limitations and embrace a future where creativity meets sustainability.
