On 25 May, an impressive event took place once again in Hamburg, where 400,000 Schlager fans celebrated the passing of 49 show trucks. These trucks, equipped with powerful sound systems, light, and fog effects, turned the city into Germany's largest outdoor party.
This year, Instagrid was represented for the first time. Sustainability and safety are becoming increasingly important for parade floats and show trucks. European Event & Medientechnik GmbH from Bad Segeberg (Germany) had the innovative idea of operating a truck with Instagrid, thus replacing the usual diesel generator. The operator of the HeyGray Team truck was enthusiastic about this possibility and tested the concept on his double-decker party float, which had about 160 people on board.

The challenge was to run the following equipment:
Kling & Freitag PA system (with 4 pieces of 2x15” subwoofers, 4 pieces of 2x12”, 1.5” tops, 4 pieces of 2x6.5” tops, 4 pieces of 2x5”, 1” tops and 2 pieces of 12”, 1.5” tops)

Thomas Beth, project manager at European Event & Medientechnik GmbH, decided to attempt this with 3 Instagrid ONE and an Instagrid LINK. “No noise pollution, no emissions, no heat generation, and a huge space gain on the float… We have backed the right horse and will continue to push this issue forward,” explained Thomas Beth at the end of the successful test day.
The technicians and DJs on the truck were also surprised that, despite the small space requirement (approx. 50x50x70 cm), the entire PA system and equipment could be supplied with clean power all day long. Melanie Grau, operations manager at HeyGray Team, was also impressed: “Incredible what these small devices can do. With this, we were able to take our truck to the next level and set a good example at the Schlagermove.”
Together with the sustainability team at Instagrid, we calculated how much local emissions we could save by replacing all 49 trucks with Instagrid systems. Our rough estimate is that, if all trucks had the same energy consumption, by using Instagrid ONE units we could save 1,580.33 kg CO2 and 1.57 kg NOX.
Future events can look forward to leveraging this technology to create more sustainable and environmentally friendly experiences. From music festivals and outdoor exhibitions to film shoots and construction sites, Instagrid’s portable power solutions are ready to revolutionise how we think about power on the go. Keep an eye out for further Instagrid appearances at the summer’s hottest events!
